What neighbors love about Solstice

Norm’s Doggie Bowl chalkboard, found recently at Ballard Reuse and brought back to Fremont. Saturday it collected Fremont’s answer to a question: What do you love about Solstice? “I the people of Fremont.” “THE TREES! SAVE THEM” “We miss its scarf guy.” “Celebrating the fun, funky freedom of Fremont.”

A small dinosaur stampede returns to Fremont

Fremont Neighbor started collecting toy dinosaurs last week to revive a Solstice tradition we missed: The Dinosaur Toast. Once a fixture of Upper Fremont, the toast disappeared when the neighbor and organizer moved away. (If you have dinos to donate for next year, please email us!)

Meet the 103 biggest SBA loan recipients in the Puget Sound region during Q1 2026

The largest SBA loan recipients in the Puget Sound region received or were approved for loans through the Small Business Administration's 7(a) or 504 programs from January 1 to March 31, 2026. The list includes loans of $500,000 or more. The Puget Sound Business Journal's rankings during the quarter analyzed included loan approvals with primary operations in the counties of King, Kitsap, Pierce and Snohomish counties in Washington. Loan amounts include total funds originated by participating lenders as well as the portion of those loans guaranteed by the SBA. According to the SBA, the 7(a) program is intended to assist small businesses in financing a variety of general business purposes by guaranteeing loans made by participating lenders, whereas the 504 program originates private-sector loans to cover project costs, with notable features including junior and senior liens as well as minimum equity investments by borrowers. This week's List continues a shift in our research methodology and philosophy, one that emphasizes more data and context for readers while better coordinating the resources available to us and our 40-plus sister publications under the American City Business Journals flag. This effort identified thousands of new local records — and cumulatively, tens of thousands of new businesses across ACBJ's footprint — last year alone. Information on The List was obtained from the Small Business Administration. Loans that are listed with a status of "canceled" have been removed from this List. All other loan statuses, including "undisbursed," are included on the List. In case of ties, companies are listed alphabetically. For information about this and other Puget Sound Business Journal Lists, please contact Senior Researcher Brandon Sawyer at [email protected] or 503-219-3411.
