Sapphic social media personality plans Queer, crafty summer camp on Whidbey Island

Summer camp holds a sacred place in the hearts and minds of many Queer people, especially in the Pacific Northwest. For many in the LGBTQIA+ community, it was the first experience with freedom, a chance to explore identities, and a week to slow down, enjoy nature, do some crafting, and make lifelong memories. Unfortunately, for many, the magic of summer camp ends with childhood. However, one community organizer and craft enthusiast is working to recreate the magic for adults across the West Coast. Natalie K

Seattle City Hall celebrates its 14th annual Pride flag-raising ceremony

An amalgamation of Seattle’s top public officials, LGBTQIA+ organizations, and community leaders came together on sunny and bright June 1 to celebrate the 14th annual raising of the Pride flag at City Hall. The tone of the event was somber and reflective, as well as passionate and defiant, as one by one, speakers rose to address the pressing struggles Queer and Trans people are currently facing both in the city and across the country. “As we are witnessing an unprecedented wave of backlash across the US tar

“Beyond Mysticism: The Modern Northwest” and SAM confronted: A Seattle art critic reveals how Gay artists went hidden in plain sight

The Seattle Art Museum is a 93-year-old institution with a history as varied — and as complicated — as the artists whose works have graced its exhibition halls throughout the years. But hidden underneath the museum’s public façade lies a Queer history that remains unknown. After Lucía Yvette Moliné-Gonzalez’s op-ed in the SGN in March about the Gay artists that were featured in SAM’s “Beyond Mysticism: The Modern Northwest” exhibit, the SGN contacted multiple parties, including Seattle art critic Matthew Ka

The Force isn’t with the kid-friendly Mandalorian and Grogu

While watching Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu, the first theatrical Star Wars adventure since 2019’s misbegotten The Rise of Skywalker, I tried to put myself back in my 1977 kiddie shoes. It was immediately clear to me that director and cowriter Jon Favreau intended his film — a feature-length sequel to the Emmy-winning Disney+ television show The Mandalorian — to be something children were going to enjoy far more than their parents. It skews very young, keeps the plotting simplistic, and fills the sc
