VICTORY! Democracy wins, authoritarians lose as laws allowing postmarked ballots to count are upheld in SCOTUS stunner

In the case of Watson v. Republican National Committee, the Court's six member right wing bloc splintered. Two of the bloc joined with the liberals to hold that the federal election-day statutes (3 U. S. C. §1, 2 U. S. C. §§ 1, 7) "do not prevent Mississippi from counting absentee ballots postmarked by election day but received up to five days thereafter; nothing in the federal election-day statutes requires ballots to be received by election day." This means Washington, Oregon, and other states can keep counting ballots with a timely postmark that are delivered after Election Day. VICTORY! Democracy wins, authoritarians lose as laws allowing postmarked ballots to count are upheld in SCOTUS stunner is a post from NPI's Cascadia Advocate, the journal of the Northwest Progressive Institute.
