Slog AM: Trump Spews Election Misinformation in Bad Speech, Fires in Canada, Poop Parasite in Your Crunchwrap Supreme

Trump Lies: Well, President Donald Trump’s speech on Thursday was a real doozy. He attacked elections. Citing heavily redacted intelligence documents out of context, Trump claimed that China interfered in the 2020 election by stealing millions of voter files on behalf of famed Chinese communist Joe Biden. According to The New York Times, “the documents […] The post Slog AM: Trump Spews Election Misinformation in Bad Speech, Fires in Canada, Poop Parasite in Your Crunchwrap Supreme appeared first on The Stranger.

Some neighborhood traditions just get better with age. This summer, the PhinneyWood Art Walk celebrates its 30th year — three decades of turning Phinney Ridge and Greenwood into a walkable gallery.  Mark your calendars: […]

Nolan’s Odyssey is a modern trek of ancient majesty

Christopher Nolan (Oppenheimer, The Dark Knight) achieves something monumental and magnificent with his robust, stridently adrenalized adaptation of Homer’s eighth-century BCE epic poem The Odyssey. In this modern interpretation that still pays exhilarating homage to old-school sword-and-sandal classics like Jason and the Argonauts and Ben-Hur, the writer-director uses a mixture of gritty realism and unabashed melodramatic excess to bring his saga to life. The film’s three-hour running time vanishes in the

Michael Gerard Stegmann, April 28, 1961–July 11, 2026

Michael Gerard Stegmann died in Seattle on July 11, 2026, following a head injury, surrounded by his family and close friends. He was 65. Mike grew up in Scottsdale, Arizona, and graduated from Saguaro High School in 1979. He moved to Seattle in 1987 and made the city his home for the rest of his life. For decades, Mike worked as a waiter in some of Seattle's best-loved restaurants, including The Surrogate Hostess, Café Septieme (in both Belltown and Capitol Hill), St. Cloud's, and Redwing Cafe. The Seattle City Council Didn’t Totally Screw Up Mayor Katie Wilson’s Biggest-Ever Seattle Transit Measure to Expand Bus Service in the City

It took over three hours of debate in the Seattle City Council’s Select Committee on Seattle Transportation Benefit District, a slew of dumb amendments, a few good amendments, and sitting through Committee Chair Rob Saka’s tortured pronunciation of the word “machete,” but the Seattle Transit Measure (STM) is intact and headed to a full council […] The post The Seattle City Council Didn’t Totally Screw Up Mayor Katie Wilson’s Biggest-Ever Seattle Transit Measure to Expand Bus Service in the City  appeared first on The Stranger.

Don’t Be a Drag

My friend group and I attend drag shows and brunches year-round. For the most part, these shows are beautiful displays of queer art and joy, and are valued spaces for the Seattle queer community. In the past month, I have been to several shows where drunk straight people (yes, I’m assuming) had to be kicked out for […] The post Don’t Be a Drag  appeared first on The Stranger.

Shiloh Davies

This story was originally published in The Stranger’s July 2026 print issue. Multidisciplinary artist and designer Shiloh Davies is looking to “bring a little more play into the everyday.” Their textile works—which include soft sculptures, costume designs, and installations—are fantastical, surreal, and full of childlike whimsy. Whether it’s large pancakes stacked along a wall, giant […] The post Shiloh Davies appeared first on The Stranger.

Seattle Art Fair 2026 Cheat Sheet

It’s time for the Seattle Art Fair, taking place July 23–26 at the Lumen Field Event Center.  I probably don’t have to explain art fairs to anyone, but art fairs are the glitzy cousin of trade fairs, usually housed in fluorescent-flooded convention centers, where galleries gather under one roof to show off their hottest, most […] The post Seattle Art Fair 2026 Cheat Sheet  appeared first on The Stranger.

Slog AM: Pete Hegseth’s Elite, High-T Warriors, the Great “Chinese Child Pornography” Robbery, and Trump’s Illegal $1 Not-Gold Coin

The Naked and Infamous: Denny Blaine Park, Seattle’s favorite hangout for nude gays, will stay open and partially naked, a judge ruled yesterday. The unsightly anti-masturbation fence will stay up, and the city will have to staff the beach with masturbation spotters, place signs outlining good and bad behavior, and establish buffer zones that block […] The post Slog AM: Pete Hegseth’s Elite, High-T Warriors, the Great “Chinese Child Pornography” Robbery, and Trump’s Illegal $1 Not-Gold Coin appeared first on The Stranger.
