This action has prompted a federal lawsuit filed by the National Fair Housing Alliance and four other housing organizations in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. The suit challenges the CFPB's decision to end the disparate impact standard and limit special purpose credit programs, which are crucial for expanding credit access for marginalized communities. Plaintiffs assert the bureau failed to justify its departure from decades of settled Equal Credit Opportunity Act (ECOA) implementation and question the Acting Director's rulemaking authority.
